WORLDWIDE FM PRESENT: MUVA OF EARTH + DJs COCO MARIA, MAFALDA, LAANI, HASEEB IQBAL
A modern-day jazz pioneer, Kamasi Washington is a unique artist who’s loved by critics and concert-goers alike. His debut album won numerous awards, including the inaugural American Music Prize and the Gilles Peterson Worldwide album of the year. Introducing jazz to new audiences, he’s collaborated with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, John Legend and Run the Jewels and arrives at South Facing with a reputation for electric live shows.
The genre-bending sound of British new jazz outfit Ezra Collective first found a home in the dynamic London jazz scene, but it was the release of their debut album, 2019’s You Can’t Steal My Joy, that helped them break the jazz mould.
Formed in London the group first made a name for themselves on the underground London jazz scene. Using elements of Afrobeat, hip-hop, grime, R&B, and jazz, the five-piece delivered their debut EP, Chapter 7, in 2016. A follow-up appeared a year later and was picked up by Gilles Peterson and awarded “Best Album” at his own Worldwide Awards.
Finally we have the incredible Caribbean-Belgian experimental jazz musician Nala Sinephro. She is best known for her ambient jazz compositions, where she predominantly plays the pedal harp, modular synthesiser, keyboards and piano.
We look forward to welcoming this trio of excellence to the South Facing stage this Summer.
