South Facing Festival is in support of Crystal Palace Park Trust
Crystal Palace Park Trust is a community-led charity, working with the London Borough of Bromley to progressively take on the management of the park.
Our aim is to preserve and protect the Grade II*-listed heritage assets, while enhancing the park as a place of recreation, education, ecology, cultural enrichment and healthy activity, on behalf of our diverse South-London community. We work in partnership with and draw great strength from a wide range of Park Friends and local volunteers.
The park was created by Joseph Paxton in 1854 to provide a setting for the relocated and enlarged Crystal Palace, which was moved from Hyde Park after the famous Great Exhibition in 1851. Just as the Crystal Palace was a seminal piece of architecture and engineering of world renown, so Crystal Palace Park was the prototype for a modern urban park, combining the elements of landscape, horticulture, culture and sports as an integrated whole.
We have an ambitious regeneration plan for the park, which includes re-establishing it as a place for live events that will bring much-needed funding for our projects, including the restoration of the much-loved Concert Bowl and the recruitment of our first full-time employees, including Chief Executive, Park Manager and Events Director.
